<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hdgC8CcPsQU/WEyXxd7BYqI/AAAAAAAAF3w/tp0SAd7e9r02j1gFkSSgEe9f0gAfdOAuACLcB/s1600/sprouting-seed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /><img border="0" height="213" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hdgC8CcPsQU/WEyXxd7BYqI/AAAAAAAAF3w/tp0SAd7e9r02j1gFkSSgEe9f0gAfdOAuACLcB/s320/sprouting-seed.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
The last few months since I have moved to San Diego have been very hectic with lots of work travel and playing...Massachusetts, Toronto,Vegas, Maui, Santa Cruz, NYC, Whidbey Island, Kentucky, Hilton Head, Mexico and Dallas...I just noted that is 11 places in 12 weeks. How is that possible? It is no wonder no art has been made! There are a couple more trips before I can work in the studio, but I am certainly chomping at the bit to do so.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p64nfDzPN1Q/WEycm-cckJI/AAAAAAAAF4A/69H6B3YdKrkutXozjXcQOMBt2f4N3nJdACLcB/s1600/Chomping-at-the-Bit.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="256" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-p64nfDzPN1Q/WEycm-cckJI/AAAAAAAAF4A/69H6B3YdKrkutXozjXcQOMBt2f4N3nJdACLcB/s320/Chomping-at-the-Bit.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
San Diego is a wonderful city (If you have seen the movie "<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT8sIT4vBUQ">Anchorman</a>" you know why) and I am just getting to know my community and reach out to some fellow artists. I have joined the Textile Study Guild of San Diego - a large and growing group of smart and engaging women...and will lead the felting study group. I will be establishing my business here and will be doing some teaching here in San Diego, so look for upcoming dates on my <a href="http://www.andrea-graham.com/">website</a> and here. It is a great destination to spend a few days and bring a friend or spouse and there is lots to do and you cannot beat the weather! Im very excited!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wCNzI2vvg9w/WEyf48WH01I/AAAAAAAAF4M/Rm0vpg6tXHI0sM7mtnqHkFjk8PaHLWfAwCLcB/s1600/6b5ae46226b38e8f05e39aad4f7c15a7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wCNzI2vvg9w/WEyf48WH01I/AAAAAAAAF4M/Rm0vpg6tXHI0sM7mtnqHkFjk8PaHLWfAwCLcB/s1600/6b5ae46226b38e8f05e39aad4f7c15a7.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Moving to another country has lots of logistic issues with banking laws and tax matters to consider, so most of my "art" business time has been consumed with research and shuffling papers. I am also very happy that I have taken on a client to consult and bring her to the next chapter in her career. I am very excited for her and guiding her through her creative business journey.<br />
<br />
With my own new chapter, I will keep you posted!<br />

After a busy couple of weeks getting other business matters organized I am back at it while I have a window! I know that I can pick away at the 3d elements and I feel the motivation to work on the additional panels. It is good to switch up at this point to protect my body, and I was having a creative flow with so many good things going on ;o)...ready to design/layout!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnxrC0cqOMc/VpX4NRQahvI/AAAAAAAAFlk/yjG6rr_CojA/s1600/IMG_3369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GnxrC0cqOMc/VpX4NRQahvI/AAAAAAAAFlk/yjG6rr_CojA/s320/IMG_3369.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I pinned the middle panel in process on the back wall...the completed piece won't even fit on that wall, lol...The really white "rocks" are pieces of paper just to plan out a bit as I work. Working so large, I constantly have to step back and see how it looks composition wise.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-egAiwJy9U6A/VpX4YnX6zbI/AAAAAAAAFlw/7d5whoIlp4Y/s1600/IMG_3373.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-egAiwJy9U6A/VpX4YnX6zbI/AAAAAAAAFlw/7d5whoIlp4Y/s320/IMG_3373.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The layout looks very strong and blocky, at this point. It will have an additional layer and then surface design, so this will all be under colors that will gently influence the final surface.<br />
<br />
Yes, the studio is a mess. I love a minimalist space at home and work and between projects my space is super organized. The key is not having more than you need! I have nice things, and the best materials...quality over quantity in all things. Useful and beautiful are my criteria (I am fortunate the people in my life come with both quality and quantity !)<br />

<br />
They have created this wonderful <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6f4TMMD0SyA">video featuring me and my process </a>and all the work that goes in pre-art!<br />

With the holiday approaching, it was difficult for me to put a hold on work and switch gears...gifts had been sent home to my amazing family and it was time to pack to leave one paradise here in California for another..</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4iQltTECnWk/Vn_zL-X1lCI/AAAAAAAAFh4/BTABoHE57s4/s1600/IMG_2977.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4iQltTECnWk/Vn_zL-X1lCI/AAAAAAAAFh4/BTABoHE57s4/s320/IMG_2977.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I look forward to laying out the next panel so I can work back and forth either working on the rocks, or rolling to alternate my repetitive movements. The issue has been my reluctance to move around a wet panel causing it to stretch. It was an ideal time to really get this piece dried out. Fan on!<br />
<br />

Ta Dah. Yes, I know...underwhelming. Process is slow and for you the follower I know it is hard to envision. My middle panel (they will run horizontally, be joined and the seams concealed) at this point is still the background. The felting and fulling process is time consuming and labour intensive (as I have repeatedly mentioned!) <div>
<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HymloTUe5js/Vm3HuFjjKoI/AAAAAAAAFfI/xsDbN1vd1h0/s1600/IMG_2868.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HymloTUe5js/Vm3HuFjjKoI/AAAAAAAAFfI/xsDbN1vd1h0/s320/IMG_2868.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This pile weighs about 40 lbs, and I am lifting and dropping sections fulling it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_RHYnv1sgV0/Vm3H0OHMuiI/AAAAAAAAFfQ/ToyUh7pS2-M/s1600/IMG_2871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_RHYnv1sgV0/Vm3H0OHMuiI/AAAAAAAAFfQ/ToyUh7pS2-M/s320/IMG_2871.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Not there yet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qiQkvi7vwls/Vm3H5LH86NI/AAAAAAAAFfY/a33tT08xH3g/s1600/IMG_2878.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-qiQkvi7vwls/Vm3H5LH86NI/AAAAAAAAFfY/a33tT08xH3g/s320/IMG_2878.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I<br />
'm taking a look at the outdoor sink at my studio wondering how I am going to rinse this thing as I am getting close to that step...The sink is too small, obviously and it would just soak in its own soapy water. Just trying to think ahead a step...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
*Confession Alert*...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I decided to schlep the work to the apartment. It was heavy and wet and I had concerns with letting it tumble. First, shorting out the machine.(it was quite wet) Second, not having control over the felt (I never use the dryer) I put it in and rearranged ever 3 minutes or if I heard anything that sounded concerning. I did this for 40 minutes. My neighbor, I'll call him "Bob", was in the cue after me and I meticulously wiped the machine and got every spare fibre out :o). The second machine is out of order (no, I claim no responsibility!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Time to rinse so I went to the bathtub (not having all this in studio poses so many logistical challenges and need to problem solve)<br />
<br />
Well, it was just too big and difficult to really get the soap out even in the tub. It was a stormy El Nino day. I needed to do this outside. I went to hose off the deck and it just got muddier so I needed to go to the studio to get some drop sheet...<br />

Time to begin on some rocks. I decided to add all the interior rocks before all the panels are joined as it will be easier to manage. Once the panels are joined, I can cover the seams with additional rocks and other details...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AxKjMdsLAKo/Vm3I7F83oaI/AAAAAAAAFhI/dgTvQ9u4xe8/s1600/IMG_2935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-AxKjMdsLAKo/Vm3I7F83oaI/AAAAAAAAFhI/dgTvQ9u4xe8/s320/IMG_2935.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I think this may take a while...My #1 concern here is a repetitive stress injury. Tennis elbow and carpal tunnel are possibilities. I will take frequent breaks and take care of my body. I am careful in yoga with arm balances and handstands (all inversions) to care for my wrists, especially.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jd3YYiZ65Sk/Vm3I_cQWMnI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/TclTC4pj-f4/s1600/IMG_2938.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jd3YYiZ65Sk/Vm3I_cQWMnI/AAAAAAAAFhQ/TclTC4pj-f4/s320/IMG_2938.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now for...more rocks. I have a seamstress expert (she makes boat sails and upholsters boats, as well as being a fabulous artist) coming on Monday to discuss the joining of the pieces and trimming to exact dimensions. I will keep you posted...</div>

<br />
With Party season upon us...I headed out to Atlanta for both business and pleasure.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3b_3cdz7Ysk/Vmi5LUOvnYI/AAAAAAAAFds/1LT7wHhi2S0/s1600/IMG_2718.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3b_3cdz7Ysk/Vmi5LUOvnYI/AAAAAAAAFds/1LT7wHhi2S0/s320/IMG_2718.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
It has been weeks since I have flown and I really do love the landscape from the air...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1LNz-gc2dHc/Vmi5UUsJCmI/AAAAAAAAFd0/HGh_VFI0tjE/s1600/IMG_2754.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1LNz-gc2dHc/Vmi5UUsJCmI/AAAAAAAAFd0/HGh_VFI0tjE/s320/IMG_2754.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I managed to connect with fellow artist and friend, <a href="http://monaleisa.com/">Leisa Rich</a>. She is not only super talented and brilliant, but a big heart and wonderful person. We had a few cocktails and arranged to see the Iris van Herpen exhibition...really stunning work. Yes, fashion, but to me wearable sculpture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3wSwspICKr8/Vmi5dKiV4vI/AAAAAAAAFd8/-9Fdwl7QDUE/s1600/IMG_2779.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3wSwspICKr8/Vmi5dKiV4vI/AAAAAAAAFd8/-9Fdwl7QDUE/s320/IMG_2779.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>

So many extraordinary pieces!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kwRff9SlGTk/Vmi5ueA7xdI/AAAAAAAAFeM/_6aWU1XKq-0/s1600/IMG_2792.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-kwRff9SlGTk/Vmi5ueA7xdI/AAAAAAAAFeM/_6aWU1XKq-0/s320/IMG_2792.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
There was a fantastic interactive component that allowed us to pet the materials :o) This is a polymer infused with iron shavings. A magnet was used to make the pattern as it set. Brilliant.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iMLYN3eqNUY/Vmi50dqvv6I/AAAAAAAAFeU/ey8Q1s1BPN8/s1600/IMG_2781.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-iMLYN3eqNUY/Vmi50dqvv6I/AAAAAAAAFeU/ey8Q1s1BPN8/s320/IMG_2781.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Gothic fabulous....3D printed. Then....we went on to Dallas for fabulous dinner and meeting up with friends and colleagues.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A6Vp2URM35c/Vmi6Ggu0sNI/AAAAAAAAFec/IXS_x9er82c/s1600/IMG_2851.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A6Vp2URM35c/Vmi6Ggu0sNI/AAAAAAAAFec/IXS_x9er82c/s320/IMG_2851.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
.....and back to work again. My poor piece had been waiting for a week and I was glad my studio was cold. I rolled it up and let some of the water drain which I sponged up enough that I could lift it into a bin to drain further...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Today I will head out to add fresh water and keep rolling! I'll keep you posted.<br />

I'm entering this post from my phone so not sure what images will load...<br />
I spent several hours this weekend further rolling and Felting. The piece has begun to shrink a little and now my challenge is to fold and full from the middle to get it nice and tight.<br />
I am about to catch a flight to Atlanta and then I'm on to Dallas, so it will get a nice rest for a week.<br />
I took some of the water out and covered it. My space is quite cold, which is good in this case to keep and mysterious things from growing!<br />
Off I go...update to follow very soon!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YeYjoVAVo-s/VlZS5_Is-4I/AAAAAAAAFZ0/ityqvXcH15M/s1600/o-OLD-LADY-DRIVING-facebook.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-YeYjoVAVo-s/VlZS5_Is-4I/AAAAAAAAFZ0/ityqvXcH15M/s320/o-OLD-LADY-DRIVING-facebook.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Remaining positive and taking time to ruminate in between the hours of working (including felt-dreams) is very productive. I wait for no one..nor does my felt... so, I made the executive decision to forge forward in the felt making and not wait for the sander. Time is precious and my schedule is demanding in all ways. I really do dislike the sander for many reasons and am trusting my own customary process. That said, what lay before me this morning was a very cold, very wet mess. I was pleased that all 35 quarts of water I worked in to layout was still in the wool, puddled nicely between each fibre, I imagined.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6n2DEMe0Jjo/VlZTELzioRI/AAAAAAAAFaA/QPGKgx4WwVY/s1600/IMG_2626.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-6n2DEMe0Jjo/VlZTELzioRI/AAAAAAAAFaA/QPGKgx4WwVY/s320/IMG_2626.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
With the thin plastic I covered it with still in place, I rolled up the layout as tightly as I could using only my 2 hands and the roll of foam pipe insulation in lieu of to ubiquitous felting tool, the pool noodle. I tied with 5 pantyhose legs (their only sensible use) as quickly and tightly as possible.<br />
I was very pleased there was no tsunami.<br />
<br />
I rolled for 10 minutes or so before the roll seemed to be loosening. I unrolled and rerolled from the other side. At this point, all surfaces were wet and it was slip and slide city. It was difficult to grip the roll that I estimate to be about 65 lbs on a wet floor. Rolling in the towel helped, but I was on the slippery floor too so knelt on a towel for several more brief sets with frequent unrolling<br />
<br />

<br />
It was one of those days that I had anticipated getting right into it and getting this stage wet felted...at the very least to a nice sturdy felt and ready to full tomorrow, however, it was not in the cards!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lLZoh7Vy4XU/VlT1ogV81uI/AAAAAAAAFYk/chP6TRMdMYU/s1600/IMG_2611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lLZoh7Vy4XU/VlT1ogV81uI/AAAAAAAAFYk/chP6TRMdMYU/s320/IMG_2611.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It was raining...a beautiful sight here in California. No issue there. The thought of a latte on a rainy day before heading to my dark cold studio sounded like the best way to start. I was not the only one as the lot was full. I parked across the street at a restaurant that was closed only to get blocked in by their morning deliveries. Entirely my fault... so I waited 20 minutes for the guys to do their job in the rain and let me through. Note: my clock is an hour off ;o)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vdV63hVZqF0/VlT17TOM0LI/AAAAAAAAFYs/KWOhmAoDP80/s1600/IMG_2615.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vdV63hVZqF0/VlT17TOM0LI/AAAAAAAAFYs/KWOhmAoDP80/s320/IMG_2615.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Not a soul in my building so the guilt of the noise I was going to make with the next stage was nonexistent....Next stage? Noise, you ask?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--BBwm6On6xE/VlT2Fc4IilI/AAAAAAAAFZA/AMIwDOrcITo/s1600/IMG_2618.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/--BBwm6On6xE/VlT2Fc4IilI/AAAAAAAAFZA/AMIwDOrcITo/s320/IMG_2618.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Fibre ready, my first bucket containing 10 quarts of room temperature water...a squash of soap and I am ready to wet out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7zY7qCzwHQw/VlT2FKd0NTI/AAAAAAAAFY8/YTgVmOwp07Q/s1600/IMG_2619.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7zY7qCzwHQw/VlT2FKd0NTI/AAAAAAAAFY8/YTgVmOwp07Q/s320/IMG_2619.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I put my mesh window screen over the fibre so they stay where I want while I apply the water. A bar of olive oil soap handy to add more as needed...Wetting out the entire piece took 3 hours and 35 quarts of water.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xvoDNX7D59g/VlT2OT4aDoI/AAAAAAAAFZQ/uDXYZRNeea4/s1600/IMG_2623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xvoDNX7D59g/VlT2OT4aDoI/AAAAAAAAFZQ/uDXYZRNeea4/s320/IMG_2623.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I covered it with plastic as I wet out so that there would not be any evaporation as I was working and to keep some of the temperature from the cold room out.<br />
<br />
The piece is now a wet soggy mess...and really to begin felting. with so much preparation and designing, getting to this stage is a real milestone and I was ready!!<br />
<br />
Getting felt started or making felt at all with a sander is NOT normally in my practice. Not a fan as it is loud, dangerous and hard on the body. That said, getting it locked down for a few seconds each square inch will minimize my fibre shifting while rolling and save a little bit of time (or perhaps only a bit of control...which saves time in the end).<br />
<br />
I have the perfect sander...in non-accessible storage (of course) so picked one up a couple of weeks ago. Only noting that it is the type with the dust intake today, on the day I need to use it (of course). A big mouth that works like a vacuum on a electrical appliance when you are using it in an unapproved manner with water...a shocking idea. Yes, I tried anyway and got a bit freaked out as water got sucked into the housing since I knew no one was there and no one would be checking on me.<br />
<br />
Of course in a small town, its all they have got at Home Depot. Amazon.com it is and, once again I am waiting.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cIpEtmEouBk/VlT17c9BiyI/AAAAAAAAFYw/jEQRj2HLVKc/s1600/IMG_2616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cIpEtmEouBk/VlT17c9BiyI/AAAAAAAAFYw/jEQRj2HLVKc/s320/IMG_2616.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iuFUx7LICUc/VlT2OCkGQJI/AAAAAAAAFZM/1kZ7sWrE8GU/s1600/IMG_2624.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iuFUx7LICUc/VlT2OCkGQJI/AAAAAAAAFZM/1kZ7sWrE8GU/s320/IMG_2624.JPG" width="240" /></a><br />
<br />
My piece is wet, getting colder by the moment in my frigid studio. I covered it with plastic to keep it wet. I am tempted to roll it and begin felting without sanding but I am using this piece to calculate shrinkage of the other panels...if I don't sand this one, I cannot accurately calculate the others using the sander. Logistics, logistics...We will see if I decided to not use the sander at all and roll this thing up and get rolling. I am thinking that might be best.<br />
<br />

With the fibre layed out I began the needling with a lethal looking tool that thats a bit of muscle and my full body weight...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82YH5tdlnpY/VlOdjGcX0jI/AAAAAAAAFX0/UyEzkHAxqbw/s1600/IMG_2493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-82YH5tdlnpY/VlOdjGcX0jI/AAAAAAAAFX0/UyEzkHAxqbw/s320/IMG_2493.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I used this tool to punch down some of the wool gently to allow easier wet out and to keep things in place...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PvaLpDnenqE/VlOdpHy29zI/AAAAAAAAFX8/8P9gp7AcG5Y/s1600/IMG_2496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-PvaLpDnenqE/VlOdpHy29zI/AAAAAAAAFX8/8P9gp7AcG5Y/s320/IMG_2496.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
Needling the surface took 3 hours...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here you can see where the dyed fibre has been passed through the prefect background...this will also assist in the migration.<br />
<br />

<br />
The Felt O Matic...<br />
<br />
So....Friday rolled around and the weather here was optimal to head out an whale watch. In spite of itching to be in the studio the sparkling water and giant sea mammals won out. Friday was just the 2 of us...Saturday and Sunday was lots of fun and laughs with good friends.<br />
<br />
I did manage to place a wool order from the boat and asked for it to be sent "quickly", which was translated as "slow as molasses"...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7wDRT0FNOA/VlObHDS0RUI/AAAAAAAAFW4/Eh9fY1Dy1R0/s1600/IMG_2557.MOV" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e7wDRT0FNOA/VlObHDS0RUI/AAAAAAAAFW4/Eh9fY1Dy1R0/s320/IMG_2557.MOV" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_9EsJH9llv0/VlObJ7rN0EI/AAAAAAAAFW8/RXTWwnyaXVM/s1600/IMG_2604.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_9EsJH9llv0/VlObJ7rN0EI/AAAAAAAAFW8/RXTWwnyaXVM/s320/IMG_2604.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
THIS order arrived in a super timely way as my orders from <a href="http://www.feltingsupply.com/">New England Felting Supply</a> always arrive. Gosh, they have an amazing staff. Lyell is like a superhero.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y1hBMi9TqJ4/VlObNwW_KSI/AAAAAAAAFXE/85XZZ2Cz_FM/s1600/IMG_2606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y1hBMi9TqJ4/VlObNwW_KSI/AAAAAAAAFXE/85XZZ2Cz_FM/s320/IMG_2606.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I really wanted to tell myself that the piece was heavy enough...that I did not need another layer. Alas, this is an important piece and "good enough" will not suffice here. So, as a result, the end of the day today looks very much like the end of the day last time. Since the last post, I needled the entire surface down again after adding another layer...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6p5hWrnCsyY/VlObSQJziwI/AAAAAAAAFXM/cv1eZApC2AU/s1600/IMG_2609.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6p5hWrnCsyY/VlObSQJziwI/AAAAAAAAFXM/cv1eZApC2AU/s320/IMG_2609.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
The next step that will begin tomorrow is wetting out and (finally) felting!<br />
A tiny baby step! Lots to get done before I leave town next week for a week and a holiday tossed in!<br />
I will keep you posted...<br />

The morning light in the studio is the best, so hesitantly I cancelled power yoga this morning. My car needed to go in the shop.. I had some things to juggle and I was so excited to begin working today, it was all I could think about from the moment I woke up. Yoga will wait until the afternoon...<br />

I needed to isolate the middle section of my compositions. I folded it back and began working from there.<br />

I know the color does not initially make sense...I need to layout the area <i>behind</i> the stones. If I put grey stones on grey back ground there is no "shadow". I don't use black...too harsh and unnatural. Here I am using dark blue, brown and green...The rock will extend beyond the dark area, but I can fill in the shadows from there. its much easier to add more shadow around rocks than cover the dark felt to correct an area too large.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
cautious adding too many other fibre details near the edge, as I anticipate I may need to cut around the perimeter to the exact size I need. Don't want a bunch of things ending abruptly at the seam as it will be more difficult to conceal. For this reason I am keeping the perimeter one color to easily match the next panel. I will also take a picture of all the dry fibre layed out and make copious notes as once it is wet felted it looks very different!<br />

<br />
calling it a day...(I always end with an obsessively tidy space)<br />
<br />
I spent all day squatting today so did a little "Malasana" and the occasional "Rag Doll" and hamstring stretches while laying out the wool to incorporate my yoga. The day ended when I noted my legs were shaking. Workout complete! Today I crossed the finish line. Feeling accomplished...Giddy up!<br />

This means tomorrow (after hot power yoga, of course) I dive head first into my delicious materials and relish the privilege of creating art that I am so excited about. This stage is the fun part.<br />
I''ll keep you posted, as always.<br />

I found a real art supply store downtown (received a note on my windshield from the City of Santa Cruz) and made my way back to get to work<br />

He liked them all! This is great news and not so great news because I am not the one step closer that I had hoped to be today and spend all day in the studio designing. He will be sending me more images and getting the design team in touch. This could mean too many opinions, but I shall see.<br />
<br />
In the meantime the days of the calendar turn and I need to get a dent in this in the next 10 days before I leave town again! I will get some other work done...correspondence, tax paperwork, and perhaps my grant report that I would much rather procrastinate on!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Hello All!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The time has finally come to get back to blogging with you all and sharing my journey mostly as an artist and a maker but also some of the other hats I wear. Many of you are Facebook friends, but the blog will allow me to give you more detail without clogging up your newsfeed :o) A little backtracking here...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After many email and making contacts around town, I finally secured a studio space for this new work. There are over 60 artists in the complex, however, I rarely ever see anyone. I think it speaks to how difficult it is to make a living as an artist...I wager they are all out working for a living so they can make art in their free time....evenings and weekends</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">industrial buildings...</td></tr>

<br />
my space is one of only a couple on the second floor and is more spacious than the lower ones (upside) It does not have a sink and has seamed plywood floors (downside x 2) I'm so missing my old big space!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fvjjxMoL2Bg/VklRzOmfpsI/AAAAAAAAFQs/1BOMiDks80g/s1600/IMG_2358.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fvjjxMoL2Bg/VklRzOmfpsI/AAAAAAAAFQs/1BOMiDks80g/s400/IMG_2358.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The ever-present in felt making solar pool cover for my work surface...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7r0m216DByA/VklR73mnTdI/AAAAAAAAFQ0/F3iqzJJA6ys/s1600/IMG_2362.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7r0m216DByA/VklR73mnTdI/AAAAAAAAFQ0/F3iqzJJA6ys/s400/IMG_2362.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Noting the seamed plywood floor (not to mention the print maker right below me) it was determined I would need to take extraordinary measures to ensure a waterproof floor. I was grateful for help from my "assistant" ;o)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PHfKXFT3TeM/VklSF7T0ITI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/uEOhX3AVM-s/s1600/IMG_2365.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PHfKXFT3TeM/VklSF7T0ITI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/uEOhX3AVM-s/s400/IMG_2365.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
Layer one was stapled...which promptly ripped as it shifted... a second layer was added, but loose so I can dry between the layers, if required. The excess rolled up near the wall to create a further barrier.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-19cI4mUt8OA/VklSO-5SY1I/AAAAAAAAFRE/N-s7Fw3LxLQ/s1600/IMG_2370.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-19cI4mUt8OA/VklSO-5SY1I/AAAAAAAAFRE/N-s7Fw3LxLQ/s320/IMG_2370.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
I will need to layout the piece in 3 sections that will be joined at a point in the process to be seen later. I cut the pool cover to accommodate one third of the layout...13 x 5 feet plus extra space around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rg6vMwV6qlo/VklSYuci-DI/AAAAAAAAFRM/eMGpFViA7AY/s1600/IMG_2369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rg6vMwV6qlo/VklSYuci-DI/AAAAAAAAFRM/eMGpFViA7AY/s320/IMG_2369.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
My prefect arrived (Yay!)...had to put the top down to take it to the studio (Yay!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3MIHVxWUj6g/VklSd5eyBnI/AAAAAAAAFRU/HlAuAcjdRvk/s1600/IMG_2381.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3MIHVxWUj6g/VklSd5eyBnI/AAAAAAAAFRU/HlAuAcjdRvk/s320/IMG_2381.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Prefect cut to the finished dimensions x 1.60. This is based on 40% shrinkage. I actually expect closer to 25-30% due to the large amount of fibre and the prefect base (2 layers). However, I need to trim the background to precise dimensions and do not want to risk being short. The completed work will be 8ft high and 8.5 feet wide.This is NOT felt...it is loosely needled fibers and will save me some wear and tear on my body laying out a few layers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-91DS3rfyibo/VklSiNJ_X0I/AAAAAAAAFRc/sTl34uP4kj8/s1600/IMG_2420.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-91DS3rfyibo/VklSiNJ_X0I/AAAAAAAAFRc/sTl34uP4kj8/s320/IMG_2420.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
The prefelt comes in 1 meter wide, so I need to join some pieces. I used my mini doffer tool from New England Felting Supply to rough up the fibers so they can be joined seamlessly. Calculate that I brushed up 13 linear feet x 4 = 52 feet of roughing up. One thing about working this size is that each task will require lots of repetitive movement. I can not physically work long hours and this will take lots of time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ49odMGaDA/VklSmQrriwI/AAAAAAAAFRk/5jY6vyv88yw/s1600/IMG_2421.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aZ49odMGaDA/VklSmQrriwI/AAAAAAAAFRk/5jY6vyv88yw/s400/IMG_2421.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
From here, I needled the fluffies together. I have ordered a larger needle tool, but it is not here yet and I need to keep moving along.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aV8WwK27eqc/VklSrwYa2LI/AAAAAAAAFRs/yVc6THKxz5I/s1600/IMG_2423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aV8WwK27eqc/VklSrwYa2LI/AAAAAAAAFRs/yVc6THKxz5I/s400/IMG_2423.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
This is me...laying on my back...taking. a. break. After a little down dog and childs' pose, I was ready to resume.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-18WMW0sEWU4/VklS0AJsR6I/AAAAAAAAFR8/vgO85aJFaRY/s1600/IMG_2419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-18WMW0sEWU4/VklS0AJsR6I/AAAAAAAAFR8/vgO85aJFaRY/s320/IMG_2419.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
This sample was primarily to check out some of my materials and colors. I was really not interested in spending a lot of energy and materials in a larger sample when I knew that I could not truly duplicate many aspects of this large piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_8wYhNgTqeg/VklSuwzvyZI/AAAAAAAAFR0/LziAbWh1vU4/s1600/IMG_2427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_8wYhNgTqeg/VklSuwzvyZI/AAAAAAAAFR0/LziAbWh1vU4/s320/IMG_2427.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I began some loose sketches to determine some of the composition. It is unusual for me to work almost square...a challenge in creating movement. I decided to call it a day, locate a proper art store and pick up a large sketchbook, some colored pencils and review some images from my client of his amazing space for inspiration!<br />
<br />
I am going to share this process openly as I know there will be lots of surprises and logistical challenges that so many would not begin to consider. I hope it will inform and educate those who are new to learning about felt as well as encourage and inspire my colleagues and students to do something really scary...lol!<br />
<br />
I will keep you posted as it all unfolds...the good, the bad, the ugly.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Hour Count: 5</u></b><br />

I lost count after 12 cities in 6 countries in 8 weeks. I was super aware of the need to take very good care of myself and focus on what I needed as I packed and repacked, taught and smiled and endured constant change and upheaval....its the little things like strange pillows, unfamiliar bird song (or lack of bird song), bathroom taps that turn in opposite ways than expected, miscommunication dealing with language barriers and cultural quirks. </div>

<br />
Eating super well and dedication to my yoga practice was essential for obvious reasons, but also as a constant...a bit of routine where little other routine existed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
There are also the rewards of finally connecting with those I have been corresponding with for a year or more and being welcomed like family and seeing the familiar faces of students eager to return to my classes.The genuine warmth and gratitude that has been directed my way has been overwhelming. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Being adaptable is something I feel I have mastered. I returned home and in less than a week packed up my lovely tiny apartment in Kingston that took the movers less than an hour to amalgamate with my studio storage unit. Living light has many advantages.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
The next month will be spent in beautiful California overlooking the cliffs dedicating as many hours as possible creating further work for my upcoming solo exhibition in Montreal. I have a very exciting project on the horizon that I will share as it unfolds. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I will keep you posted...</div>

<br />
<br />
It has been a very long time since I have blogged studio images as it is while working! This is why I opted to use my bedroom in my new space as my studio. I have a aversion to visual clutter so having this in a dedicated space was required to maintain my sanity. In case you are wondering, I have a storage unit that stores my felting machine, extra tables and most of my fabulous wool. What I have here is what I need until my lease expires and then a new game plan will be in place! <br />
<br />
I feel an obligation to keep new work under wraps before an exhibition so this is a wee peek before everything gets professionally shot. This body of work seems a long time coming as there were many transitions in my life and a move of home and studio. All difficult, but very positive. It has taken me a year to create the 14 sculptures in this new series. Having a diverse practice means new "Art" work is precious...each sculpture created with great intention and direction with specific time set aside to do so. I truly look forward to unveiling it to you once the exhibition opens in Verona, Italy (Pinch me)<br />
<br />
I then have additional travel and teaching before my exhibition in Montreal at the Canadian Guild of Craft where these and other pieces will be available. Excited as I move forward.<br />
<br />
I head out to Cleveland in a couple of weeks and will have lots of pictures and workshop images to share, so things are about to get a whole lot more interesting. I will keep you posted, as always. <br />

<br />
It is finally close at hand...my epic travel schedule and tour. I begin my Spring travel with the Cleveland Museum of Art and I do not stop, it seems, until the year ends. The most intense will be May and June with 8 cities in 4 countries. This will include my solo exhibition in Verona, Italy and a special video project with the incomparable <a href="http://www.dyeinghousegallery.com/en/">DHG</a>. I am very much looking forward to my home base <a href="http://www.feltingsupply.com/product-category/classes/">New England Felting Supply</a> in July. I hope to see some old friends and new faces. The best place ever to take a workshop :o) and shop!<br />
<br />
I am looking forward to it all beginning. I have dozens of eager people anticipating what I have to teach which drives me to up my game and prepare to inspire, educate and encourage in new ways.<br />
<br />
I am booking up 2016 and 2017 with a lighter teaching load to allow time for new work and reflection. I always find it interesting and liberating to have the flexibility to morph what I do to both suit my creative needs while remaining above water. Speaking of water...I have an exciting teaching event to occur the end of November to tell you about very soon. I will keep you posted!<br />

<br />
I begin my travel soon with very little downtime in between which calls for great coordination and commitment! With exhibition work ticking along, I am aware of deadlines looming.<br />
<br />
I am about to embark on a rather INSANE travel schedule. I have this gorgeous little apartment that will sit lonely and empty, which seems such a shame. However, my wandering artists head, heart and hands have committed to some exciting events and I choose to live this life while it is an option. I am so fortunate. I am driven and excited for my future! I am so supported by my friends and the arts community and (hallelujah) Ontario Arts Council funding. I can say that I have earned it. <br />
<br />
I book so far in advance, knowing what life had in store for me had not revealed itself when these events were booked. I will, over the next couple of years be scaling back the big international trips and staying closer...in North America. I will concentrate on my position as a Canadian artist and increasing my presence in the United States. Big changes are ahead and I feel there will be space for new work and experimentation! I look forward to sharing it all with you... <br />

<br />
<br />
I know I have been absent for a while here in Blog-land, but due to lots of amazing and exciting change in my life. I have moved from my rural location to the "city" of Kingston. I am in a charming tiny little space, all by my lonesome! Yes, that is right...no kitties, no beastly dog (but lovely) or other human beings (all tremendously self-sufficient) It is the perfect place for me to work between my travel work and I am adapting quickly to being a city dweller. I'm very keen to walk wherever I need to go and meeting friends for dinners and live music feeding my creative soul. <br />
<br />
I have received an amazing grant from the <a href="http://www.arts.on.ca/site4.aspx">Ontario Arts Council</a> as an established artist for creation and development of the new body of work that is yet to be revealed! This is to premier in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verona">Verona, Italy </a>where I have a solo exhibition and it will be beautifully documented by <a href="http://www.feedthebeardesign.com/">Randy DeKleine</a>. I will share images once the show is underway.<br />
<br />
This new body of work is titled, "Monument: lasting evidence of someone or something notable" These sculptures are my own personal monuments to places, events and people from my past. It was during my recent travels last year that I spend as much time reflecting on what people tend to mark or memorialize than I did on anything else. There was lots of thinking about architecture and how we define "home" as I was considering uprooting. It was an unexpected benefit to all the travel and fascinating people I encountered.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8z616oX8FRQ/VOJL9044PuI/AAAAAAAAFD8/iL0fTvRNpNg/s1600/002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8z616oX8FRQ/VOJL9044PuI/AAAAAAAAFD8/iL0fTvRNpNg/s1600/002.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
Making big changes are never easy, but most things worthwhile are not. With every piece of art, we take a leap of faith and trust that we will create something worthwhile. I have been very fortunate through this process that the ideas and composition are flowing freely. This is an indicator that I am on the right path personally and professionally. I look forward to sharing the work here and on my website in the coming weeks and then I am off traveling the world once again! I will keep you posted <br />

The trip to Boston was fantastic and Andrea and I had such fun. The exhibition at the <a href="http://www.icaboston.org/exhibitions/exhibit/fiber/">ICA</a> was great<br />

<br />
but the absolute highlight was a video piece by <a href="http://www.icaboston.org/exhibitions/exhibit/ragnar-kjartansson_the-visitors/">Ragnor Kjartansson</a>. (above) A stunning piece with such beauty and curiosity.<br />
<br />
We also stopped at the <a href="http://mobilia-gallery.com/">Mobilia Gallery</a> thanks to our companion for the day, Marcia Young, of <a href="http://fiberartnow.net/">FiberArt Now</a> magazine who arranged the visit and drove us to beautiful Cambridge. I have work there in a new show and it is a fantastic gallery. I fell in LOVE with the kinetic rings by <a href="http://www.atelier-berger.de/start1.html">Michael Berger.</a><br />

<br />
Today I am working on a presentation I will be giving at the <a href="http://www.modernfuel.org/">Modern Fuel</a> Artist Run Centre alongside <a href="http://kevinrodgers.ca/home.html">Kevin Rodgers</a>. He is artist and Director of the centre and I look forward to hearing about his residence in Belgium. I will discuss how my travels will inform my new work..which is juuuust beginning, so discussing it tonight I think will allow me to consider the impact more fully. Even as I put the lecture together (Oh, yes...for tonight!) I will be developing these ideas. Kind of exciting. <br />
<br />
I have set a schedule for myself that will encourage me to complete the required number of sculpture for my solo exhibitions in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verona">Verona</a>, Italy in May and The <a href="http://www.canadianguildofcrafts.com/index.php?newlang=english">Canadian Guild of Craft</a> in Montreal in September. At this point, there are a whole lot of things crossed out and moved around and while I have the feeling time is on my side, I know better. Time is fleeting and it is time to focus.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
My schedule this week has drinks with friends, parent teacher meetings, art meeting and (more) drinks with friends. All this takes me from my studio space but I know serves as fuel for my creativity. I am a people person and need to be out with my people!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
Always such a balance. I'll keep you posted...Now off to work!!<br />

She woke much earlier than I to head out to <a href="http://www.sheepandwool.com/">Rhinebeck Sheep and Wool Festival</a>. I keep telling myself I will make it there one year. While I just love<a href="http://www.humansofnewyork.com/"> people</a>, I am not a huge fan of crowds and it will be shoulder to shoulder there this weekend, I am certain.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FQ1ltqNqMoc/VEJdaH1_40I/AAAAAAAAE9I/-BXiadclcdY/s1600/herd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FQ1ltqNqMoc/VEJdaH1_40I/AAAAAAAAE9I/-BXiadclcdY/s1600/herd.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Today, I will catch up on some work, stop by New England Felting Supply and <a href="http://www.bostonusa.com/">Boston</a>. While in Boston, I will pick up the talented feltmaker, Andrea Noeske-Porada.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yDaTxDVlQCM/VEJioOItoFI/AAAAAAAAE9Y/3alXJNAbqxA/s1600/Andra-Noeske-Porada.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yDaTxDVlQCM/VEJioOItoFI/AAAAAAAAE9Y/3alXJNAbqxA/s1600/Andra-Noeske-Porada.jpg" height="320" width="290" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
She makes very interesting geometric felt utilizing different weights and densities of wool to effect share and shrinkage.<br />
<br />
We will go to the<a href="http://mobilia-gallery.com/"> Mobilia</a> gallery to see the show I am in (and the great company I am showing with!) and the the big fibre show at the<a href="http://www.icaboston.org/"> ICA</a> (The institute of Contemporary Art)<br />
<br />
I will deliver Andrea to her next destination and then head home to get to work in the studio.<br />
I am so pleased to let you know I will have a solo exhibition in Verona, Italy. The fantastic owner of DHG in Italy has been coordinating the Italian leg of my visit and I am both grateful and excited to dd this to the European bookings that will be announced very (very) soon.<br />
<br />
I will be in the studio in the coming months and sharing bits and pieces here as they become available. The big reveal of new work will come in the early Spring as I prepare to depart but I will keep you posted on progress and all the other things I am doing in between, because you know there is always lots going on here! I look forward to including you on this next stage...the next part of this fantastic journey. <br />
